Making a Good (First and Last) Impression

You’re proud of the quality of work that you do. You’ve got plenty of satisfied customers. And, you install the best irrigation products that money can buy (of course you do, you install Hunter).

Shouldn’t that be enough to get you the job over all those other installers?

Hunter offers a variety of tools for sales presentations

Well, chances are, many of those “other” guys you’re competing against for the job do some pretty good work, have a reference list of previous customers, and also use Hunter products. So, you’ve got to do something else that separates you from the rest of the pack.

When it comes to setting yourself apart, it’s all about making a good impression. And it starts at the very beginning, with making a good first impression.

If you’re soliciting prospective customers with a leaflet or a door hanger, make sure it looks clean and professional, is printed clearly with no typographical errors, and presents you in the best possible light. If you’re going door-to-door yourself, or sending a member of your staff, make sure you’re dressed neatly and act professional at all times. And, if you are making a phone call, be sure to come across poised, knowledgeable, and confident.

These are the first impressions that people will have about you and your company and can go a long way in helping to form an opinion of you. But there are more ways to create a favorable impression and Hunter offers a array of promotional tools that can help. Here’s just a sampling:

  • When you first come in the door to meet a prospective customer, use the product presentation bag (PRO-101) to carry samples of the products you are going to propose to use in their installation
  • The contractor presentation portfolio (PRO-119) can be a great tool to showcase photos of past projects as well as reference lists
  • Gather the Hunter literature appropriate to the job you’re bidding and organize it inside a high quality presentation folder (LIT-011)
  • Show the “Homeowners Q & A” CD (LIT-361) during your presentation and/or leave it with them to review after you depart—it’s a great tool that will help your company stick out in their mind
  • Once you’ve sold the job, the “Maintaining Your Hunter Sprinkler System” DVD (DVD-002) is the perfect leave-behind to help answer questions about their system (it will also leave a lasting impression of your thoroughness that will lead to positive word-of-mouth advertising)

You only have one chance at a first impression. Make sure that it’s a good one because it is going to last.
