Hunter Institutional Series™ Rotors Remain the Ideal Answer for Large Projects of All Types

The best rotors around for medium and large expanses of turf? Say “I.”

That’s I as in Institutional. Specifically, the Institutional Series™ of rotors from Hunter – I-20 Ultra, I-25 Plus and I-40, in particular.

For mid-size landscapes such as a business park, or even as a commercial-grade upgrade for residential sites, the I-20 is the ideal choice of rotor. No other sprinkler in its class is packed with more high quality features, including Hunter’s patented FloStop® that easily stops water flow through a single head while the rest of the system is running.

For larger turf areas, the tandem of the I-25 (for the 40-71 foot range) and I-40 (for 45-70 feet) provide durability and performance. Both rotors feature the ProTech™ safety system with an extra-thick rubber cover, stainless steel risers (standard on the I-40), drain check valves, and a wide range of nozzles that provide optimum performance in both primary and secondary coverage.

We could say more. But we’d rather let the folks who buy and install these products every day speak instead.

Commercial: Durable and Dependable

One feature that the I-20 offers that other rotors in its class don’t is an optional stainless steel riser. The riser can be appealing to residential customers looking to upgrade, but it really pays dividends at commercial sites thanks to its increased durability, especially in sandy soils.

“As an upgrade for both residential and commercial customers, I-20 stainless can dramatically increase our profit margins,” said John Swaska of Integrity Sprinkling Systems in Cape Coral. “And my crew loves the FloStop feature.”

The I-20 also offers the convenience of being able to install one rotor to cover all the needs of a particular landscape. Because the rotor can handle a radius as small as 17 feet or as large as 47 feet, and because it offers a choice of 22 different nozzles, the I-20 can “do it all.”

“There’s no need to create a separate zone for sprays,” said Swaska. “We simply install one of the rotor’s six different short radius nozzles and we’re set.”

“We count on Hunter I-25 and I-40 for years of trouble-free service,” said Rich Giemzik of Aqua Designs in Plainfield, Illinois. “We won’t use anything else for the schools, athletic fields, and not just large scale commercial, but large scale residential jobs we do. They’re proven, rugged products we rarely have to change out because they just don’t have failures.”

Sports Fields: The Favorite Choice

At major stadiums the world over, Hunter I-40 and I-25 abound, with I-20 used in smaller portions (such as sidelines) of the field.

In the U.S. alone, more than two-thirds of Major League Baseball’s new stadiums opened since 1990 have chosen to use Hunter rotors. As have the nation’s only two professional-level just-for-soccer facilities, in Los Angeles and Columbus, Ohio. In addition, dozens of major universities feature Hunter rotors on their athletic fields, as well as most other landscaped areas of their campuses.

“I-40 is the only head I’ll use on the projects that I maintain,” said Jim Trabein, turf manager at War Memorial Football Stadium on the campus of the University of Wyoming in Laramie.

“The I-40 is especially good at working in the windy conditions we have here,” said D.D. Toppenberg, grounds supervisor at Colorado State University in Fort Collins and a fan of Hunter rotors since the company’s inception. “We also use the Institutional Spray. It handles our spray needs, but is as rugged as a rotor.”

And, then, there’s pro football.

“There have been no more references to the ‘frozen tundra’ at Lambeau Field,” said Allen Johnson, head groundskeeper for the Green Bay Packers. “Not since we installed a new field heating and drainage system and new Hunter rotors.”

The Pack’s arch-rivals may not see eye-to-eye on the field, but they do agree on what goes in under the field.

“The new Soldier Field is state-of-the-art, in the stands as well as on the field,” said Chicago Bears head groundskeeper John Nolan. “We have one of the best playing surfaces in the NFL and the excellent coverage of I-25 and I-40 is a major reason why.”

Schools: ProTech™ Earns Straight A’s

Professionals and collegians benefit from Hunter rotors; it stands to reason the younger athletes should as well. So it’s no surprise that more school districts around the country are turning to Hunter rotors to keep their fields lush and green. And safe.

“ProTech is the key reason we chose to go with I-40s on our fields,” said Earl Davis, sprinkler supervisor for the Clark County (Las Vegas) School District. “The rubber cover has the smallest exposed surface area of any rotor in its class; that means there’s less chance of on-field injuries with players.”

Mike Tarantino, grounds and operations supervisor for the Poway Unified School District has also chosen to install Hunter on the playing fields at his campuses in San Diego’s North County area. “We need good coverage and durability and a safe product. No line offers a better mix of choices than the Hunter Institutional Series™.”

Parks: Low Pressure, Long Distance Solutions

The Institutional Series provides solutions to the irrigation needs of other large sites, as well. Parks, greenbelts and public spaces, and even cemeteries can also benefit from I-20, I-25 and I-40.

In addition to that trio, Hunter also offers two other rotors that each addresses specific irrigation needs. The I-60 has been crafted to meet the needs of systems that deal with low pressures, a common problem faced by park and recreation departments that draw their water from municipal water sources.

The I-60 eliminates the need to install a pump to get a system up to operational level and also does away with the need to install larger pipe. For open expanses of turf in the 50-67 foot range, the I-60 is an economical alternative to what you’re probably using now.

The I-90 is the industry’s longest distance rotary sprinkler, boasting a radius up to 96 feet for a coverage area no other commercial sprinkler can deliver. Yet, even with its long throw capability, I-90 features a reduced-size diameter and cushioned rubber cover that makes it the perfect choice for parks and wide open lawn areas, as well as perimeter watering of athletic fields and horse arenas.

“We use all the Institutional Series rotors, based upon the needs of a particular site,” said Jeff Carroll, city parks supervisor for Tempe, Arizona. “And all the rotors adjust the same, making it so easy for our field guys. Plus, with the huge range they cover, we don’t need to look at another product line.”

No need for you to look at any other line either. Just stop by your Hunter distributor today and pick up the rotors that work best for you from the Institutional Series line.
