Happy Anniversary, PS Spray – 15 Years and Still Going Strong

Has it really been that long already?

Yes, it was 15 years ago that Hunter introduced the PS spray head. It’s the head that Hunter has long referred to as “the one sprinkler to carry when you want to carry just one.” The PS earned that catchy description thanks to its adjustable arc that creates arc patterns all across a full circle’s range – from 1 to 360 degrees. No other sprinkler offers a more precise setup to meet a landscape’s particular needs.

Using a PS, a contractor has no need to stock hundreds of odd-pattern nozzles. Not when this one head can easily be set to the exact arc you require. Simply select and set the precise arc needed with the easy-to-use Hunter adjustment wrench to keep water just where you want it…and off buildings and hardscapes.

“We have been using the PS since it arrived on the scene,” said John Ridley, president of Hazeltine Landscape in Sarasota, Florida. “We use tons of them. I appreciate the fact that we can stock PS and only need to carry that one spray head – in different riser heights, of course. We don’t need all sorts of heads and dozens of different nozzles. All we need is the one sprinkler and that’s it. The single nozzle gives us all the variety we need to get the job – or, should I say, jobs – done.”

The Nozzle that Keeps Dirt Out

In recent years, Hunter enhanced this dependable sprinkler with a new, improved nozzle design. The nozzle was made wider for a better fit and to be more dirt tolerant. If dirt does manage to make its way past the exceptionally large fine mesh screen, it will automatically flow through the nozzle opening and out into the landscape.

In addition, the nozzle adjustment screw was improved to feature a flat portion at the top. When adjusting the arc on the nozzle, the screw cannot be tightened below the base of the nozzle, assuring that the nozzle always remains stable and in place. The wider, more stable top also makes it less likely that dirt can go back into the nozzle opening, preventing the potential for clogging and uneven coverage.

Quick and Easy Set-up

The PS Spray has Bicos AjustáveisIf fast installation is important and efficiency is a must, the PS sprinkler has been and remains the answer.

First of all, the adjustable arc nozzles give you a single sprinkler that’s like having hundreds of nozzles in one. But the versatility doesn’t stop there.

Three different models are available: a 2" or 4" pop-up and a shrub version. Each of these models have a radius that is easily identified by a color ring – red for a 10’ radius, green for 12', black for 15' and white for 17'. There is also a blue ring for the 5' x 30' side strip.

Among the other features that make PS so popular are a heavy duty wiper seal that prevents wasteful flow-by of water around the riser, an extra large filter screen that captures large debris without interrupting flow, and the smallest exposed diameter in its class of sprinklers. There is also an optional drain check valve that eliminates low head drainage for up to 7 feet of elevation change.

“The PS is hassle free,” said Tim MacMillian, of All Seasons Landscape in Oceanside, California. “We don’t have to mess around finding ‘the right nozzle’ because the PS is always the right one. We can do speedier installations and leave knowing the job is done right.”

The PS is guaranteed to provide matched precipitation at all settings. As the arc gets bigger or smaller, so does the amount of water going through the head. Quarter-, half- and full-circle arcs, as well as the odd patterns in between, can all run at the same time and apply similar precipitation rates resulting in the most efficient irrigation possible.

And since efficient irrigation is what you’re after, doesn’t it make sense to stop by your Hunter distributor and pick up some PS for your next spray job?
